Cala Violina Beach
Cala Violina Beach, is a beautifull cove hidden in the Bandite natural reserve of Scarlino. The beach, closed on both sides by headlands, is long and narrow, its send is bright and the water is one of the clearest in Maremma. The beach takes its name from a legend: walking on it you can hear the sound of a violin caused by the treading.
How to reach Cala Violina beach? To reach the beach you will have to park in payment parking lot and walk 2 km abong mediterranean scrub, mostly in the shade. This is one of the most wonderful beaches in Maremma, even if very crowded in summer time, as soon as you get to see the sea from the end of the wolk you will know it too. We highly suggest to take water and food with you, but in summer time a food truck is generally open. Beeing in a natural reserve you will not see any construction or any organised beach, only sandy free beach. Furthermore if, the beach is not enough for you but you are looking for a walk or a little trekking the many paths in the bushes will fulfill your desires.
A walk in Cala Violina Beach
Cala Violina Beach is one of the most famous and popular beaches in Tuscany. It’s name translated would be “violin beach”, comes from a legend telling that walking on the sound of a violin playing will come out of the tramples sand. To hear the sound you will need a quiet day and in summer time this is not probable. The beach and the forest path to reach it are to be enjoyed also out season. Indeed you will find walkers, bikers, and outdoor people all year long in this beach. In spring is also nice to lay on the sand end enjoy the sun, since the beach is repaired from winds and enjoyable with lower temperatures.
The sand is light brown mixed with yellow, heavy, making water very clear also on busy days. Located among Punta Alta and Follonica, the beach is well indicated with signs. You will have to park the car in a parking lot (to be paid in summer time) and then walk long the path by foot for 25 minutes. It’s a little in the shade and a little in the sun going up and down. The effort will be rewarded! In the last year the beach as grown in fame therefore we recommend to go in the morning in order to be able to park as well as to find a good spot on the beach. Indeed to avoid over pollution on the area, which is a natural reserve called Le Bandite di Scarlino, the parking lot has a limited number. An valid alternative to reach the beach is by mountain bike from Puntone, where you can easily leave the car. The path is steep and we suggest it for trained people. Still al the paths in the reserve around the Cala Violina’s beach are famous used very much by locals and tourist.
